Seven Reasons (E-Books) to Try This Today!

Last week I mentioned a great bundle of e-books coming out.

Well TODAY is the day!  Woo-hew!

Let me tell you why I am excited.

I am a big DO-IT-YOURSELF(ER).

I love the thrill of providing for my family in new ways.  Most of all, I like using what is in my environment and staying away from harmful, toxic substances.  I tend to make all of my own health items; body soap, toothpaste, deodorant, and face wash.  I use coconut oil for absolutely everything!  It is the main ingredient in all of my personal care products. I cook my organic eggs in coconut oil in the morning for the whole family. I also drink a cup of hot lemon juice with coconut oil, chia seeds and honey every morning to detox and hydrate.  You can click on each of those products to order the same products I use, directly from Amazon. Yes, they are affiliate links and help to pay for my blogging activities.  So  please support my blog by using these links for the products you want to try. But I digress!

Back to The Ultimate DIY Bundle!  There are seven reasons (e-books) why I want this bundle.  Actually there are over 70 reasons I want this bundle, but I will tell you about seven e-books I really want for my home collection. Let me tell you a little about them:

1. A Beginner’s guide to Homemade Personal Care Products by Shaina Olmanson.

Even though I already make all my own products, I LOVE to tweak the recipes.  I am always looking for a more effective ingredient that will be gentle on my skin and teeth.  Plus I am still looking for a homemade shampoo.  I have only had disasters in the realm of shampoo. Please don’t bring up the NO-POO method.  It was the greasiest month of hair disaster I have ever had.  Period. But I am still hopeful.

2. Natural Beauty Guide by Wellness Mama.

I LOVE the Wellness Mama’s blog.  I have been following her for awhile now and I absolutely value her articles. Connect with Wellness Mama on FB! The best part about buying these bundles is I get to support other bloggers while checking out subjects I want to know more about.

3. Clean and Simple by Stephanie Langford.

I want to use cleaning practices that are good for the environment, my family, and pets.  I typically use vinegar for most of my cleaning needs.  But I am always looking for better methods and ideas.

4. DIY Herbs at Home by Karon Grieve.

I love gardening and reaping the fruits (or herbs) of my labor!  It is really frustrating to me when I spend a whole season growing herbs only to loose them when trying to preserve them.  Any help in this area is greatly welcome.  I so need this book!

5. 21 Inspiring Thrift Store Transformations by Jami Boys.

Who doesn’t love going to the thrift store?  Better yet, who doesn’t love transforming that thrift store find into something so chic that everyone wants one?  Enough said!

6. Make It! Hardware Store Decor by Curbly.

This one is a guilty pleasure for me AND my husband. We both LOVE, LOVE, LOVE hardware stores. Spending a day or two in a favorite hardware store dreaming about updates to our home is a guilty pleasure. Anything that supports that endeavor is a must have in my collection!

7. Scripture Memory Cards by Melissa Beaver.

I saved this one for last.  I am always looking for more ways to get scripture into our home.  Beautiful memory cards to use with my children and to be a daily reminder for me is invaluable!

Poppyseed perfection is teasing me!

My husband gave me a compliment today. He said he didn’t know he had an European bakery in his home. He then told me that I could sell my new creation for big money!

Very high compliments for my husband. He is a cafe/bakery connisuer. He liked the coffee treat, fresh bread, and what I now call Poppyseed perfection. A good day for baking.

At first I wasn’t convinced they were that good. I liked them. They were very tasty warm. For me the test would be after they sat out for the day. Would they have that wonderful texture when cool? Would the flavors work or contrast too much?

Well, tonight after everyone was in bed I gave them the final test. One bite and I whispered wow. These were outstanding! My husband is right. They would sell even as second day fare. They are that good.

I couldn’t help myself. I had to have a second one. After all, I am sure there won’t be any left by the time I get up in the morning!

Then I realized it was that serious. I took another roll out for photographs as they probably will be gone by the time I get up.

It was all the will power I had to walk away from that third roll. Poppyseed perfection was teasing me with the crunch of the seeds under a flakey olive oil crust. Topped with brown sugar, cinnamon, and Red Sea salt- perfection in every bite!

Oh how I want another bite!
I think I need to go to bed before the temptation is too strong!

Looking Back Over the Last Year.

October 7, 2014

1 Year Anniversary October 7, 2014

Recently I found the trophy section on WordPress.  Turns out I have been blogging for a little over a year now.  This fact sent me into a spiral of contemplating the last year, my children’s quality of life, and my childhood. It also meant beginning to get in contact with those whom I have lost contact.  Some of you may be reading this now.  Some of you may have gotten personal messages from me on FB or in e-mail.  Perhaps an invitation to connect on LinkedIn. All of you matter to me.

What I have realized since beginning this journey into the past is that I would not change a moment.  Yes, there has been heartache.  Yes, there have been trials.  My life has taken turns and directions I never would have thought possible.

Most importantly, there has been love.

The love of a God who is greater than I.  A God who is forgiving when I recognize my faults and am willing to change.

Thomas and Satish October 2014

Thomas and Satish
October 2014

The love of a husband who is Christ-like.  A man I prayed for.  A man who far exceeds what I thought I needed.

Satish and Thomas Elihu greet me after being gone for an hour!

Satish and Thomas Elihu greet me after being gone for an hour!

The love of two beautiful boys.  They are so like their father; intelligent beyond comprehension, compassionate, and  full of life.

The love of my beloved pets.

The love of my family and friends.

The love of those I am privileged to minister to and with.

Thank you for being a part of my journey the last year.  I hope you continue to walk along side me.

Girl Brain

As my mind becomes clearer, my score on Bejeweled Blitz becomes higher.  My husband equates playing this game with picking berries-girl brain work!  He does not mean this in a negative way. What my husband is merely saying is that I have a mind for details.  I make fast connections and see patterns that others may miss.  I identify those patterns and act on them quickly and efficiently.  My husband calls this “berry picking”.

My husband will attest that he and very few other men actually like picking berries and then putting them into a basket so they can be taken home and made into a pie.  It is just too many details to carry out. Most men I have known would rather pick a berry or two at the bush and eat them right away.  That is of course if you can even get him to the berry bush in the first place.

I on the other hand would happily go to the berry bushes at our first home, pick berries for over an hour, and then return to the kitchen to show my hunter husband the foraged bounty.  He was very content to eat whatever morsel these delicate beauties were turned into.  However, his first reaction was always the same, “Girl brain likes to pick berries!”

It is true.  I will pick whatever type of berry is available and it makes me happy.  My berry of choice lately has been Bejeweled Blitz. Whenever I feel foggy or muddled I turn to this game (or Tetris) to get my focus back.  It usually only takes three to five minutes and then I see a solution to an issue that I did not see before.  It is about turning on the problem solving side of my brain and turning off the negativity.

This morning I turned towards the berry picking of choice.  I had just finished writing a blog that had brought up a lot of negative emotions.  I had felt overwhelmed and heavy.  After two games and three minutes of pure satisfaction, I felt better, and then wrote this post.

My husband prefers to take naps to refocus.  I am a little envious of this as I have never been able to shut my mind off enough to nap.  I practice it now.  I use the techniques of body relaxation and breathing that I learned in the book Childbirth Without Fear by Grantly Dick-Read.  It has been helping me to let go.  Childbirth is of course a whole other topic!  I am happy to say that pregnancy and childbirth was a very natural and positive experience for me.  However dear reader, I will keep you in suspense on that topic for a little while longer.

My question for you is: What do you turn to in order to refocus?

The first word.

The first word.

What an interesting question.  What should the first word or theme be for a new blog about my life.  Should it be about my family; an incredible husband and two wonderful little boys?  Perhaps it should be about my professional life; business consultant, green energy enthusiast, virtual assistant, writer, publisher, and artist.  Maybe I should make commentary on where faith and world politics collide.

Perhaps the first word should just be: Welcome.

I hope you enjoy the occasional snapshots into my life and the things that matter to me.
