Poppyseed perfection is teasing me!

My husband gave me a compliment today. He said he didn’t know he had an European bakery in his home. He then told me that I could sell my new creation for big money!

Very high compliments for my husband. He is a cafe/bakery connisuer. He liked the coffee treat, fresh bread, and what I now call Poppyseed perfection. A good day for baking.

At first I wasn’t convinced they were that good. I liked them. They were very tasty warm. For me the test would be after they sat out for the day. Would they have that wonderful texture when cool? Would the flavors work or contrast too much?

Well, tonight after everyone was in bed I gave them the final test. One bite and I whispered wow. These were outstanding! My husband is right. They would sell even as second day fare. They are that good.

I couldn’t help myself. I had to have a second one. After all, I am sure there won’t be any left by the time I get up in the morning!

Then I realized it was that serious. I took another roll out for photographs as they probably will be gone by the time I get up.

It was all the will power I had to walk away from that third roll. Poppyseed perfection was teasing me with the crunch of the seeds under a flakey olive oil crust. Topped with brown sugar, cinnamon, and Red Sea salt- perfection in every bite!

Oh how I want another bite!
I think I need to go to bed before the temptation is too strong!

Yesterday we took a break.

Yesterday we took a  break.  We visited a nearby state park and then stopped by the local playground.  By the time we arrived at the playground my youngest son had fallen asleep in the car seat.  My oldest son was afforded some much needed alone time with mom and dad.

The last few weeks have been intense. We are living off-grid on our new property.  It has been very cloudy and rainy, so solar power has been low.  I think it has been a blessing from God.  We have spent more time reading books with the kids and playing in the yard.  Our dog has benefited from longer sessions of fetch.

I have also spent more time cooking and baking.  It makes the children very happy when I make a special meal for them.  When we got home yesterday I realized there were only two hotdogs left.  Not enough to feed a whole family!  So I created biscuits with instant potato flakes to cut down on gluten, sliced up the dogs, topped the biscuits and baked them.  Served with sweet peas and apple sauce.  Even my husband asked for seconds and thirds!

Mashed potato biscuits and hot dogs.

I really like baking with instant potato flakes.  I have made cakes, breads, and pancakes with the spuds.  The end product has been lighter and more moist than the full gluten versions.  It was a nice way to end an awesome day out with my family.  What have you done to take a break lately?
